DESCRIPTION:This one-day international symposium in Rome marks the eightiet
 h birthday of the\ndistinguished architectural historian Joseph Connors an
 d his retirement\nfrom active teaching. Eleven European colleagues and for
 mer students present papers exploring issues in the history of Baroque art
  and architecture\, their methodologies and historiography\, all using Joe
 's personal "Opus Architectonicum" as a point of departure.Currently the M
 ichael C. Duda Visiting Professor\nat the University of Notre Dame School 
 of Architecture\, Connors has\nshaped the study of Baroque art\, architect
 ure\, and urbanism &ndash\;\nparticularly of Borromini and the city of Rom
 e &ndash\; as a scholar\, teacher\,\nand mentor for half a century. In his
  role as a visionary institutional\nleader\, Connors has fostered innovati
 ve work in early modern Italian\nstudies\, the wider humanities\, and the
